"Love is all I seek, and to be free;
Yet I am robbed of all these, by your just and honorable Sultan!"
Some time in the 15th century, Emperor Ming of China gave his daughter's hand in marriage to Sultan Mansur Shah, then the reigning Sultan of Malacca. His daughter's name was Princess, or Puteri Li Po.
Puteri Hang Li Po is normally associated with the kingdom of Malacca and that period of time in history. But imagine if this story was retold, but set in no particular place or time - what would it be like?"
This is how our version of Puteri Hang Li Po will be told.
We strip this famous, oft-performed story of its historical boundaries and explore the story from a purely human perspective. We shall show, instead, quite simply, the struggles of a young girl in a new environment with no prospect of ever seeing home again.
Follow us as we see her cope with extreme loneliness and desperation. Follow her as she follows her heart.
We shall learn of her fantasies, her hopes and her dreams as she strives to regain some meaning in her life.
